Barrhead Elementary Athletics

Coach –

This year for the first time Barrhead Elementary had volleyball teams. They consisted of approximately 50 boys and girls. The players were divided into three teams which competed against other schools in our division. We also participated in a district tournament in Westlock. All teams did very well and proudly represented our school! Congratulations to all members!

Indoor Running Team has started again this year.
We have competed in the Indoor Games for almost 30 years. All students from Grades 4-6 have the opportunity to try out for the team. The selection process of the athletes that make the teams is based upon several different criteria. Naturally speed and ability play a large role when choosing sprinters, but we also look at dedication, compatibility, effort, how our student athletes behave in various scenarios (on the bus trips, in the Butterdome, in practice) “coachability” and cooperative skills. We take great pride in how our athletes have represented our school in the past and look forward to continuing that tradition.
January 17 is our next practice at the Butterdome,
Wednesday, February 20 Elimination Race at the Butterdome
March 16 Finals at the Butterdome
Official training starts in January 3 days/week, most likely Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. We will practice at school and at the arena.

Basketball season for our school starts in the New year. Any student in Grades 5 and 6 can sign up and compete within the school. Nine teams participate in exhibition games during recess throughout January and February. Once the season is over coaches select individual athletes from their team to compete in an “All Star Tournament”. This Tournament will be held on Friday, March 2nd, 2018 starting at 2:00pm.

Thank you to all staff coaches and good luck athletes!
