French Carnaval At Camp Encounter, by Emily
Apr 18
On March 3rd 2010, the Barrhead Elementary French classes went to Camp Encounter for Carnaval! Carnaval is a French tradition. At Carnaval we have curling where we have frozen colored ice in milk cartons. Then we try to put our rock closest to the white one. We went ice fishing in pre-dug holes by some parent volunteers. Nobody caught a fish but we still had lots of fun! There was a fire where we had yummy hot dogst hat we got to roast ourselves. We also had crepes! Crepes are a thin baked dough with maple syrup. YUM!, "Tire" (Syrup On Snow), snowshoeing up and down lots of hills, egg games and tug-a-wore were so much fun! My favorite part was "Tire!"
All the immersion children were separated into groups. The groups were quite large with group leaders who were parent volunteers. All the older 5/6's had a kindergarten-grade 4 partner. We had that partner and had to go from station to station - doing the stations with the partner! They are so cute!
The grade 7-8-9 were the ones supervising all the stations mostly... They did a great job! Thanks to you guys, we had instuctions and help at our station!
The part everyone dreaded the most was going home and leaving the camp! Everyone got onto their buses. There was one for kindergarten, grade 1 and 2 another for grades 3,4,5,6 and the other was junior high grades 7,8,9! What an exciting day and great way to learn the French culture! Bonhomme was there (A snowman) almost being attacked by his fans! Thanks Bonhomme!
